Take at least a one day class in beginning digital photography. You can find them at some local libraries or camera stores.

Then devour your user manual and play with your camera until you don’t have to even think what you may need to do to get great shots.

Look on this link for composition ideas.

Your referance to a “normal” camera is a little confusing because a normal camera is one that the photographer can control using specific shutter speeds and lens apertures. My guess is you are calling a simple P&S camera “normal”. If this is true, your only recourse is to read the manual and follow the instructions and be aware that you will NOT be able to shoot light graffiti, star trails or light streaks of cars driving at night as well as a large number of other favorite techniques used by photographers when using a fully adjustable camera

This will get you started. If you are in any way serious about learning more about the craft of photography, you will have to put in some brain effort. It cannot be learned by reading a paragraph of “tips” here on Yahoo!Answers. Start with the basics, perhaps a visit to the bookstore or library, and a good read and play with your camera manual. It is not necessary to have a fancy camera to get good images. Learning about basic composition and how to see good lighting will help your photos more than image manipulation programs.

So begin the learning path, continue to practice, and have fun with your camera. Happy shooting!

If your camera comes with a manual, READ IT. No matter how well you handle your camera now, if you haven’t read the manual already, read it.

Remember that a good camera won’t take good pictures for you. I used to feel so intimidated by other photographers because I didn’t have as you put it, a ‘super fancy camera’. :)

Practice, practice, practice! Read as many tutorials as you can get your hands on. Google them or go to a bookstore or a library – whatever floats your boat. Reading up on the rule of thirds would be a good start.
